Deirdre Duffy

Deirdre is the CEO of Friends of the Earth Ireland, which is a member of the largest grassroots network of environmental activists and groups in the world at Friends of the Earth International.  

We connect and empower grassroots, national and global struggles to protect both people and nature.

Formerly of Community Foundation Ireland and the Irish Council for Civil Liberties, Deirdre is best known for her role as Campaign Manager for Together for Yes. This campaign successfully brought together a very diverse movement to work for and achieve Repeal of the 8th Amendment (reproductive rights) in 2018, proving that when people unite behind shared values, they can reshape society itself.

Drawing on her background as a human rights lawyer, Deirdre's ambition is to place climate justice at the heart of environmental campaigns for a world where both people and nature thrive.

At Friends of the Earth Ireland that means pushing the Irish Government to reduce polluting emissions fast enough to meet Ireland’s legally binding pollution limits and fairly enough to reduce poverty and inequality.
