Poetry Reading

Nell Regan

The Shaking Bog Festival, in partnership with Poetry Town invites you to come and join Nell Regan as she reads from A Gap in the Clouds, her new co-translation of Ogura’s 100 Poems by 100 Poets, one of the most important collections of poetry in Japan.

Though the poets include emperors and empresses, courtiers and high priests, ladies-in-waiting and soldier-calligraphers, the collection is far more than an historical document. Originally compiled in the 12th Century, these tiny exquisite poems, translated here by James Hadley and Nell Regan,  have endured because their themes are universal and include love and the passing of the seasons.  Martina Evans in The Irish Times noted,  'these delightful translations reveal millennium old voices still fresh and full of yearning’.
