Glencree Valley

The Shaking Bog Festival takes place in Glencree Valley in County Wicklow. We use a number of locations spread through the valley, with some farther afield in Wicklow.

General Advice

Weather Advice – Please come prepared for all weather and wear appropriate footwear.

Midgie Alert Midgies in the Glencree Valley are plentiful, especially on cloudy days and in the evenings. Please come prepared with long trousers, sleeves, hats (even nets) and insect repellent. All our volunteers will be carrying a nature friendly insect repellent, so please feel free to ask for some.

Food There will be light refreshments available at most locations but you are also welcome to bring picnics or stop for food in Enniskerry Village.

Tickets

Please keep your tickets handy. All attendees no matter the age must hold a valid ticket either printed or in the Eventbrite app.

Food

There will be light refreshments available at most locations. At Aurora House Rural Vagabond Coffee Cart will be selling coffees, snacks and sandwiches. At Glencree there is a fully serviced café and again Rural Vagabond Coffee Cart will be selling coffees, snacks and sandwiches.

Keeping It Green

This festival is all about celebrating nature so please respect the landscape and outdoor locations at all times. Please be careful of waste – use reusable water bottles and coffee cups where possible and dispose of your rubbish responsibly.

Ticketing & Attending Events

For safety, waiting times pre-show will be limited and no latecomers will be admitted. Please arrive no earlier than 30 and no fewer than 15 minutes before show time.

All bookings are made through Eventbrite, please bring proof of tickets to the event.

Due to government guidelines for family and social gatherings, tickets for some events are sold in groups of tickets designated for customers of the same household or social bubble and seats will be allocated based on your purchase. Patrons will be requested to queue at 2m distancing to enter the venue.

Customers will be required to wear a face-covering at all events, with exception to children under the age of 16, customers with breathing difficulties, customers with illnesses or impairments which would make the wearing or removal of a face-covering upsetting or uncomfortable.

Please make use of our hand sanitising stations at entry & exit points. Additional hand sanitiser dispensers are placed at key points throughout the venues for your safety.

Latecomers will not be admitted.

Our staff have been updated and trained on all the necessary procedures and policies so do please co-operate with their requests to ensure a pleasant experience for everyone.

Covid-19

We respectfully ask if you feel unwell or have been in contact with someone who is unwell, has travelled from abroad and/or is isolating, please do not attend the festival. Please refer to HSE.ie for full public health advice on Covid-19 and contact us directly.

Common symptoms of coronavirus include:

  • A fever (high temperature - 38 degrees Celsius or above).
  • A cough - this can be any kind of cough, not just dry.
  • Shortness of breath or breathing difficulties.
  • Loss or change to your sense of smell / taste.
  • Attendees are required to confirm they will not attend if they:
    · Have symptoms of COVID-19.
    · Are self-isolating or restricting their movements.
    · Are waiting for the results of a COVID-19 test.
    · Have recently returned from traveling abroad as per government guidelines.

By Car – Glencree Centre is only a 40 - minute drive from Dublin City Centre, 45 minutes from Dun Laoghaire, 25 minutes from Bray and 25 minutes from Rathfarnham.

There will be parking available near or beside all venues as indicated on the map. However, this will be on a first come first serve basis and once full, people will be directed by volunteers to alternative parking locations. If you are coming with friends, we urge you to please share cars as much as possible within your pods.

Midges in the Glencree Valley are plentiful, especially on cloudy days and in the evenings so we suggest coming prepared with long trousers, sleeves, hats (even nets) and insect repellent.

Glencree Centre is a fully accessible venue.

Curtlestown Wood

By Car – Curtlestown Wood is only a 55-minute drive from Dublin City Centre, 35 minutes from Dun Laoghaire,18 minutes from Bray and 30 minutes from Rathfarnham.

There will be parking available near or beside all venues as indicated on the map. However, this will be on a first come first serve basis and once full, people will be directed by volunteers to alternative parking locations. If you are coming with friends, we urge you to please share cars as much as possible within your pods.

Please note the nature trails have some steep hills, uneven ground, brambles and bracken underfoot means it's easy to trip. Lots of nettles so sleeves and long trousers are highly recommended as well as sturdy footwear with good grips. Due to the nature and location of certain venues, levels of accessibility vary greatly. Please prepare according to the location information.

Those attending should be of reasonable fitness. We advise you to be prepared for all weathers, wear appropriate clothing and footwear and bring plenty of water. The Wicklow Way is not a fully accessible venue.

Cloon Oak Glen

By Car – Oak Glen is an hour drive from Dublin City Centre, 40 minutes from Dun Laoghaire, 25 minutes from Bray and 35 minutes from Rathfarnham.

However, this will be on a first come first serve basis and once full, people will be directed by volunteers to alternative parking locations. If you are coming with friends, we urge you to please share cars as much as possible within your pods.

Mermaid Arts Centre

By Car – Mermaid Arts Centre is a 45-minute drive from Dublin City Centre, 30 minutes from Dun Laoghaire and 25 minutes from Rathfarnham.

Free underground parking is available for the duration of evening and weekend shows. To access this, upon turning in from the Main Street, follow the road around to the right directly behind the Civic Offices building. The underground car park is on your left-hand side halfway down this road.

By Bus - Numbers 145, 184, 45, 84, 45A all travel to Bray

By Train or Dart - Regular trains and darts travel from Dublin city centre to Bray station. Mermaid ArtsCentre is just a 10-minute walk from there.

Mermaid Arts Centre is a fully accessible venue.

Powerscourt St Patrick’s Church (Enniskerry)

By Car – the Church is a45-minute drive from Dublin City Centre, 30 minutes from Dun Laoghaire, 12minutes from Bray and 30 minutes from Rathfarnham.

There will be parking available near or beside all venues as indicated on the map.However, this will be on a first come first serve basis and once full, people will be directed by volunteers to alternative parking locations.
